COMMON HELP:

UNSUBSCRIBING FROM OUR NEWSLETTER

1. Click here to edit your profile settings
2. Under the "Receive Email" box, UNCHECK "Receive e-mails from the MacInsiders Team with occasional important campus news and updates"
3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click SAVE CHANGES.

HOW TO TURN OFF E-MAILS ABOUT NEW REPLIES TO THREADS

Issue: I keep getting lots of emails about replies to the forum that I don't want to get sent anymore!

Reason: You currently have automatic thread email subscriptions turned on.

Threads in a forum allow you to 'subscribe' via email for updates. You can see all your thread subscriptions in your account settings here.

You're going to want to go to the link above and then check off all the ones you're already subscribed to and at the bottom where it says "Selected Threads", click that dropdown and choose "No email notification" under "Update subscription type".

You have a 'global' default setting for all threads that you reply to, and you may have set yours to automatically subscribe you to any thread that you add a reply on. To alter this default setting for all new threads that you reply to go HERE and then you'll see "Default Thread Subscription Mode" and turn that to "Do not subscribe".

If you come across a thread that you really do want email updates every time there is a new reply then look at the top of the page under the "Similar Threads" box and you'll see a "THREAD TOOLS" dropdown you can click on. Click it, then click on the option that pops up called "Subscribe to this thread".

FORUM BASICS
GLOSSARY

Forum - the high level topic or category you're discussing in (ex: "Chess Club")

Thread/Discussion - A single discussion on a certain topic of your choice. You can open as many 'threads/discussions' as you'd like. Other users can reply to those discussions by 'posting'. (ex: "When is the next Chess Club meeting?")

Post - An individual message/reply that a user has put in reponse to your thread/discussion. (ex: "Next meeting is on October 12th!")

POSTING NEW DISCUSSIONS

To get started, click the FORUMS/DISCUSS button at the top of the site.

To post a new thread/discussion click on the "Start New Discussion" button. This will let you post a new 'thread'.

Type in a title for your thread, and fill in the body text for your thread. You can also use emoticons/smilies from the right side, as well as change colors of your text and font size.

Once you're done, click "SUBMIT MESSAGE" button and your thread will be posted for everyone to see.

If you want to respond to something that a user said and add your '2 cents' click on the "NEW REPLY" button to add your own response.
