50$ is such as good price, its normally 110$!
sale ends on Dec 8th or when stock runs out so buy it quick!

easy upgrade and will definitely boost hd performance with its dual 320gb platters.

If your 300 gb is 2*150 gb platters, then the different should be big, also the newer drives tend to have better access times (latency).

It is normally as simple as that... but you need a desktop to transfer the files from one drive to another, unless you have an ESata port on your laptop. I have an ExpressPort to esata adapter + cable if you need to borrow...
