What is the process for applying for McMaster's newspaper. I know there is a portion of their website where you post your resume and add a comment but does anyone have any tips and such?
You mean applying to volunteer at the Silhouette, right?

We are people of this generation, bred in at least modest comfort, housed in universities, looking uncomfortably into the world we inherit. -- Port Huron Statement
If you're interested in writing for the Sil, come see us at Clubsfest on Wednesday, September 8 anywhere between 9 and 3, and we'll give you the low-down on volunteering for us.
If you can't make it to Clubsfest, stop by our office in the basement of the Student's Centre anytime in the next few weeks and chat with anyone there.
Most of the sections haven't yet determined when they will be holding their weekly Section Meetings for volunteers, but those dates should be finalized by next week and, with any luck, we'll publish them in the upcoming edition. Section Meetings are times when you can come and speak with the editors for particular sections about writing specifically for them.
A lot of it depends on which section you want to volunteer for (News, Culture, Arts, Sports, Business, Opinions, etc.)
Do you know which particular area interests you the most?

What if I am interested in editing, too? Is it common for a first-year student to be an editor? Or, are there requisites (member of the team for x amount of years, etc)?
Hey everyone, sorry I haven't answered the questions on the thread yet, but class and the first issue of the paper have been keeping me pretty busy!
Each different section has meetings at different times, depending on when the editors all don't have class. I can tell you that News meets at 130-230 every Friday and my personal office hours are around 2 every day. If you can't make any meeting, shoot us an email and we'll set up a time to sit down and chat (The news email is news@thesil.ca).
You can stop by the office (Room B110 of the student centre, can't miss it) at any time and the editors would be glad to sit down with you and discuss how you'd like to help with the paper!
Every section can use volunteers, so all the help we can get would be much appreciated. All the editing positions are filled, but writers and photographers are always needed.
I hope to see everyone at the section meetings in the coming weeks!
