I may be shunned for this, but when I first came to MAC and heard our mascot was a marauder, I immediately thought of Harry Potter

And if anyone asks, our mascot is a Phoenix

A marauder can be a bird of prey OR a plundering pirate, villain, etc. In the case of our Marauder, it's definitely a bird of prey. The eagle in the University's coat of arms is entirely separate from the marauder in our Athletics & Recreation logo.
