CS 1.6 vs Source [fixed poll]
This is the new poll for the upcoming Counter strike tournament.... it had to be reset due to abusive voting. Now the forum is fixed so only macinsiders members may vote...

We are hosting a counter strike tournament in on Saturday Jan 16th, from 11am to 8pm, with free for all gaming before and after the tournament. Please visit http://www.maclanclub.com for all details. Note: Non-McMaster players are more then welcome to participate.

current rule set: http://www.maclanclub.com/media/rules_Jan10_CS.txt

Please vote for preferred tournament game, 1.6 or source, or both if you would participate in the tournament either way.

-Kevin

update: our CSS release is now Jul 2008 (1.0.0.34) version (non-steam)
update: our CS 1.6 release is now Oct 2005 (1.1.1.5) version (non-steam)

Feel free to use this thread to form teams (single players are welcome to enter tournament as well as some teams lack players).

-Kevin

Edit: the room has changed to MDCL 1009.. sorry for the inconvenience... some engineering competition booked all of BSB on a saturday, if you need help finding the place, just give me an email and ill give you a map of the campus

I need a team. I'm fairly good at source, I just play more modded servers then pubs/scrims.

Say if we have our own configs can we still use them with the non-steam version? Also, is there any reason why we can't use the steam version?

config files you mean? Well, those are just standard game options so go ahead. Steam version + non-steam versions typically dont mix well, i don't have an environment to test that setup at home, so ide have to say no. The non-steam one installs very easily and downloads in seconds, so it creates an even playing field for everyone, and helps prevent any issues.

At the event of course, on blistering fast gigabit network! 40MB/s + download speed... source (1.4gb) = 35 seconds, 1.6 (400 mb) = 10 seconds....

the issue is not so much non-steam vs steam, it is that steam's version is the most up to date build and protocol wise... for instance our CS 1.6 non-steam is v47 for protocol, vs steam is 48.. i know its possible to switch protocol's, but its not very 'clean'.

I don't play CS that much actually, im more of a recreational gamer / RTS fan.... Starcraft II is going to rock. Charles (MLC Vice president of CS) on the other hand is much more into CS then I, he will be at the event with his own team.

Yes, we have a 54Mbit access point connected to the MacConnect port on the wall, so there is internet access in our BSB room.... the wireless is NOT connected to the gaming lan though... we have more then enough lan ports for tournament and casual gamers to connect to our network.

my 1st post @ MacInsiders, for CS , lol.

Neways, Id like to register a Team by the name "MSA United", 5 players: Baqer, Hassan, Haider, and 2 more guys, just gotta confirm with them. We are gna pay at the event.

Source is fun, but Id prefer playing 1.6, gameplay > graphics so lets see how the poll goes

See you guys at the tourny, should be fun

Peace
