Trippa: Because Comp Lit and English (and Cultural Studies) are all cross-listed courses, they will all have roughly the same workload.
Amara, the observation portion is...well, basically you're observing people (for instance in a starbucks and tim horton's) and nothing the differences/similarities and writing a paper on it.

it's pretty standard; tutorial partiipation, weekly readings, a midterm, a big essay, a final.

I haven't taken the course, so I can't tell you specifically.
But, the rule for textbooks goes: not everything. MOST of the textbook is covered, but it's hard to cover that much material in 12 weeks.

Curly-2, if you're in Engineering, why not take some courses for your electives that are a bit of a change from your regular direction? Personally, if I were cramming my head with things like calculus and algebra, I'd use my electives to take courses like philosophy or classics, or maybe a language.

I was going to take a language as an elective, but not one of them worked with my schedule. :(

so whats the sitch with linguistics?
some people are saying its hard, others that its easy. i'm not a fan of essays, but like structured classed, and the description made it sound interesting.

Hey,
I'm a first year student at mac and was just wondering if you can take the psych 1aa3 instead of the 1a03 because I heard the 1a03 is extremely dry and if you had to choose between psych and health studies which is the most interesting and most "easiest" elective out of the two because I'm trying to lighten my load since I have Bio 1a03, Chem 1a03, Physics 1p03, and Math 1a03. In addition, I was wondering since I picked pysch 1a03 can I still change it to another course even though it's mid-August already? Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks

prereq for psych 1aa3 is psych 1a03 so no, you must take 1a03 first.
And yes, from what I understand you can change your classes up until the drop/add deadline which is in september.

Anyone know what English 1B03 is like? I have it in my schedule now, but if its a dry/intensive course I don't want to carry it with my engineering workload. Sounded fun on paper, at least. Thinking about that theatre/film course instead, any ideas/feedback? Thanks in advance :-).

In English 1B03 you study images/advertisements and break them down to study the meaning(s) behind them (denotation, connotation, myth) read this. There are a few papers you need to write in the course.
Theatre and Film 1B03 I found quite fun if you're into analysing old films for style, etc.

Which anthro are you talking about, Amara?
And I had Arratia, but I had her for a third year mandatory course, so I don't think it would be fair to really compare.
