Elect ALICIA ALI to SRA Social Sciences!!!
Hey everyone!
My name is Alicia Ali, and I’m running to be YOUR Social Sciences representative on the SRA (Student Representative Assembly). I’m a second year political science student, with the ambition to TAKE ACTION!
My platform is as follows:
1. Courseware Fees
- Are you SICK and TIRED of paying RIDICULOUS courseware fees? If elected, I will work with my fellow SRA members to advocate for reduced prices, and have them printed at the Underground instead of Titles.
2. Wheelchair Accessibility
- Does McMaster provide wheelchair access ramps to all of its buildings and lecture halls? Maybe, but it's definitely limited. Students confined to wheelchairs are always stuck at the back of the lecture hall. Furthermore, wheelchair access ramps are often long and complicated.
Everyone deserves equal access to education.
3. Stronger Society Relationships!
- Together with the Social Sciences Society, I will work with other SRA members to advocate for bi-monthly meetings open to you so you can voice your concerns about anything from academics to extra-curriculars in and around the McMaster community.
4. SRA Blog
- Have you seen the SRA Blog? Wait, did you even know such a thing existed? Well, it does, and it’s the perfect opportunity for YOU to tell the SRA what concerns you have!
I strongly believe that success is determined by two major factors
1. Communication
2. Teamwork
Communication between the SRA and their respective faculties (in the case, the Social Sciences Society) is vital to ensuring the student voice is being echoed. Furthermore, we need to continue communication between you, the students and your elected leaders. I am advocating for monthly OR bi-monthly forums for YOU GUYS to tell us what issues are important to YOU! In saying that, I think it’s important to recognize that communication and teamwork go hand in hand. Great change is a direct result of people working together, and if elected to the SRA, I will do my very best to work WITH the Social Sciences Society instead of us individually trying to compete for your attention.
I’m a student, just like all of you but not necessarily with the same perspective on student life and academics. So add me on facebook, send me a message, or say “HEY!” if you see me on campus, because I want nothing more than to be approachable to you!
Oh, and while you’re at it, you might as well join my facebook group too!

Anyway, that’s all for now, but with your support, you’ll be hearing from me again soon!
So go out and VOTE on March 11 & 12 in the STUDENT CENTRE! There are some great candidates running in this election, so GET INFORMED!!! Democracy is a very powerful tool, and YOU as members of the MSU have the ability to bring about change... so go for it!
