English 2A03
Took this class with Searles-Giroux in Term II of 2009-2010.
The course was weighted:
2 page paper = 10% x3
Midterm = 30%
Final = 40%
Prof is really awesome, good at explaining complex theory, very friendly, wants her students to do well.
We read Tar Baby, God of All Small Things, Maus, Maus II, Pale Fire, Kiss of the Spider Woman and the Critical Toolbox.
The course was set up so each one of the books correlated to a theory or theories within the toolbox.
The short papers were assigned 3-5 days before they were due over ELM and due the day before class (so Sunday or Tuesday) in order for the class to read them and facilitate discussion.
I disliked the midterm; I found that there were too many marks for what we were expected to do. We were given five definitions and had to write on four (worth 8 marks each) and given six excerpts from the text to define, name and explain the significance of (20 marks each).
