First Year Kin Questions
Okay so I'm registered for first year kinesiology. I have a couple of questions about picking courses... elective-wise, what do I have to take and what can I take? Do the electives I choose have to be in the science faculty? And is it okay if for first year, I have 5 courses first term, 4 courses second term and take Math 1LS3 in term 3? Is that allowed to happen?

Term 3 means that the course is taken over the full year (both semesters). It would have a course code that ends in 6, i.e. French 1A06. Math 1LS3 is offered both semesters, so if you took it 2nd semester you would have 5 courses each semester.

As for electives, they don't necessarily have to be science electives. You do need 6 units (2 courses) in Science (Chem, Bio, Enviro Sci, Psych), but you can take those in any of your 4 years. You have the math requirement covered by taking Math 1LS3, and then eventually you'll have to take either Stats 2B03 or Kin 3C03 (most likely in 3rd year).

Hope this helps, and if you have any more questions let me know.

Ohhh my bad I didn't mean term three.. I meant if I take calc for life sci in summer school instead, am I able to do that? I would prefer to leave my second semester with only 8 units of electives and then take math in the summer, that way I'm not too overloaded because my time table is looking kind of insane. Elective-wise I was thinking of taking french (1A06), and multimedia (1A03), and then calculus in the summer. That way I would have a bit of a break from all the science. Good idea? Or not workable?

Looks good. You might have a little administrative trouble when it's time to pick courses for 2nd year, since you're only taking 27 units during the year + 3 in summer school, but I think it should be okay. Most people take 10 courses during the year and do fine, but it's up to you.

Does anyone else have a better understanding of how this works? I've never had to deal with it.

But you're still considered a full time student of you take 8 courses, so I don't think it would harm you in anyway unless you would want to apply for a professional school.

I've taken 9 courses during the year and i was fine just make sure you have the require courses for your second year specialization. But I found taking 9- 8 courses during first year a little bit better than taking 10. It gives you time to adjust and ease into the program.
