Grade 'F' Question
Hey, I failed Math 1Z04 and I was wondering if I have to do this..
" ALL LEVEL I STUDENTS HAVING AN F AS A FINAL GRADE IN A FIRST TERM COURSE OR
AS A MID-YEAR GRADE IN A FULL YEAR COURSE ARE REQUIRED TO REPORT TO THE
OFFICE OF THE ASSOCIATE DEAN (JHE-A214) BEFORE JANUARY DROP & ADD PERIOD TO
LEARN WHAT MUST BE DONE TO QUALIFY FOR A LEVEL II PROGRAMME."
Do I really have to visit JHE/A214 or can I not go as I already know what needs to be done? Did anyone else go to this? Thanks in advance.

I would go. It would take 30mins max out of your time and could be useful.

just go. You probably have to speak with an academic advisor. They will tell you what has to be done.

Definitely go to the academic advisors office (Sally Williams) even if you know what to do! She'll just take a look at your situation and tell you what your options are and you may pick up somthing you haven't known about previously.

I don't want to start a new thread, but I'm in a similar situation.
I failed (F/0) Math 1LS3 in first semester. It was a combination of the change from highschool to university as well as living on my own and developing study habits, I ended up not passing.
Should I just go to see an academic advisor?

Definitively go see an academic advisor. They are really helpful. You'll probably have to take the course again if it's a requirement for you program though.

Well see the thing is, I can take either that or the 1M03, and I'm in the 1M03 now, and anticipate doing a lot better (IE not failing). The professor is 10x better as well, the prof for the 1ls3 didn't really explain things well, and spent a lot of time drawing nonsensical pictures.

Ah ok, so as long as you pass this course then it takes care of that requirement. But you should know that you are down 3 credits and you'll have to make up for it somehow. Either summer school or overloading (if you meet the requirements for overloading). But go talk to an academic advisor, it'll really help.

Hey,
i will second what he said.. go see the people at csd and book and appointment. They will teach you how to study and take notes in class. Take the earliest one possible, cause you don't have time to waste in second semester. Sooner you start better it is!! trust me i had a hard time adjusting into living my by self in first year!

Regardless of how good / bad the professor is, you should see an academic advisor and go to the CSD if you're failing courses...

I agree with this completely...a bad professor may hinder your ability to learn the material, but it's not going to take you from an A to an F. Even if you had a great prof and scraped out with a 2 or 3 in the course, it's still advisable to see a counsellor just to get some tips for coping with stress and the transition from highschool.
