Having trouble joining the McMaster Facebook Community
I've heard that you need to have a valid @mcmaster.ca email address, but when I tried to join the group I was never prompted for one. I manually connected my @mcmaster.ca email to my Facebook account, and waited 48+ hours since, but I still haven't received any invites or anything, and my status on the group is still 'Pending'. I've also had my friends try to invite me to the group via email and as a friend with no success either.
Does anyone have any other ideas on how to get this to work? There are a lot of club groups in that community that I'd like to be able to join!

The Facebook McMaster group is run by the SSC (Student Success Centre) and usually after September ends, they stop accepting invites and don't moderate the group as frequently.
I would try emailing them to have them accept you into it.

Could you help email them to accept me as well?I have almost the same problem...If I use my phone and type in my mcmaster email, it always says invalid and if I use my laptop the request shows that it is pending all the time...

The SSC doesn't run a McMaster Facebook community
Hi everyone, I work at the Student Success Centre. I've received some emails and Facebook messages about this conversation and thought it would be helpful to provide a more public answer.
First, there is no McMaster Facebook Community. The page we have received questions about is a landing page through Facebook that collects McMaster affiliated groups and pages that Facebook users can join. It's almost like a McMaster Google search for Facebook - it's not something you can join, rather a table of contents that provides many different avenues that you can explore related to your interests (i.e. McMaster). I'm happy to provide more details on how this works if you have questions.
Second, the Student Success Centre does not manage a general McMaster Facebook group. Here are some of the Facebook groups/pages we manage:
- The MacSSC Facebook page. I think we've got a pretty great page, so if you aren't following us, check it out (@MacSSC).
- The official "Class of" pages. We manage these starting in the summer and into the mid-Fall semester. These pages then get passed on to the Alumni Association.
- The official McMaster international students group. An informal hub for international students at McMaster.
- MacAbroad Facebook page. Our exchange coordinator informally runs this.
Hope this was helpful.

I try to sign up for one Group, however, it keeps showing that you need to be a member of McMaster to join this group. What should I do?

This happened to me too, but only on my phone. Try doing from your laptop/computer and see if it works.

Did anybody find a solution?
I've been trying to join the McMaster community page but nothing happens (it stays on pending). I use my laptop (not phone).
It seems that I have to join McMaster community to be able to join other groups.
I contacted Student Success Center (SSC), they referred me to the University Technology Services, who told me they don't manage that and that I should contact Facebook directly. I reported the issue to facebook through the help center but nothing happened.
Any suggestions?
