Last SRA Meeting Update - 09P
|
Here are the highlights of the last SRA meeting, courtesy of: www.SRAtoday.com
09P Highlights (Feb/28/2010): - Rob Howard, a project manager from SheepDogInc ( a google apps implementer in Canada) gave a presentation of using Google Apps at McMaster University. Several benefits to in house solutions were mentionned to be: Constant Innovation, Collaboration is baked in, Reliability, and Security.
- Andrew Richardson mentioned talks within the Board of Directors in regards to potential increases in Dental fees to compensate for increasing dental claims. Student feedback is needed on whether students would like a fee increase but the same coverage, or the same fee and a decrease in coverage.
- Andrew Richardson also mentioned talks of Hospital Administration pushing the university and city to remove the bus stops at the hospital. Mr.Richardson has been fighting this and is in talks with Terry Sullivan for potential permanent bus drop offs directly by the Student Centre in front of Mills Library.
- The following SRA seats were filled: one seat on the Elections Committee, Services Committee, and the Operations Committee
- An MSU seat was closed on the Bylaws and Procedures Committee, and the MSU Spirit Award Committe
- Operating policies concerning Campus Events, Charity Ball, Compass, Maroons, PAC, and Shortstop were approved as changed and recommended by the SRA Services Committee

Thanks for this. I had no idea that the hospital bus stop was potentially going to be removed. Does anyone have any more information on this? Where will the students who take the beeline get on and off - just at Emerson and Main?
Is there any way to get more information about Derek Taylor being fired? He seemed like a nice guy and I thought MacGreen was running fine.. I'm curious what happened.

Hi Kathy,
I can quickly respond to this as I am on the executive board who released Mr. Taylor from his duties as MacGreen Director. For obvious reasons no one can say why he was fired as there are HR matters that would arise, however, it should be noticed that he was 'terminated with cause' as stated by Mr. Ricardson at the SRA meeting. Sorry I can't be anymore help but it was all in closed session for obvious reasons
And yes the HSR is becoming a big issue and needs to be addressed. I believe the buses would stay on Main so yes you would have to get off there and then walk the extra bit

Boccaccio, thanks for helping me out. For the busses, half the time they stop at Main & Emerson, half the time they stop at the hospital. So I already do walk that far sometimes, it was just nice to have it at the hospital once in a while.
Will the reason(s) for his termination ever be released?

As far as I've heard, the hospital has some forward expansion plans, but I'll ask Andrew Richardson to make sure, unless someone else knows.
oops, misread that, thought u asked why busses would stop coming to hospital, well, if u were curious at all, tht's my reason.
Also, I don't think the reasn for his temrination will ever be released since it is to do with HR. However, if he chooses to comment on it, that is allowed, so you can ask him if you'd like.

Kathy,
The fine was just another stupid decision from the Vishal Tiwari era of the MSU. I contend that the EB wrongfully dismissed him for a specific action done during the Elections process, which resulted in a fine that has yet to go through appeals processes.
I hope Derek makes the circumstances of his dismissal public, as they are asinine, and incorrect.

Rohan, while I usually like to entertain your concerns with the MSU, I can assure you that the decisions reached by the Executive Board are not taken lightly. Employment is a very real concern for a student union and as such seeks to have the best and brightest employed and retained.
I do hope that Mr. Taylor makes a statement if he so chooses, but I would discourage any rumours from starting unless they come from valid and clear sources.
