One of the best resources for students at McMaster, and the one that is the most overlooked is the Centre for Student Development. It is located in MUSC B107, and it’s website is
http://csd.mcmaster.ca/. CSD offers services for students in several main areas.
Personal Counseling: Councilors and psychologists are available to assist students in any issue that may occur during their years at McMaster which may affect their success of well-being.
Academic Skills: CSD uses Academic Skills Development via groups, workshops, online resources and individual counseling, so students can reach their academic potential. Test preparation, study techniques and effective note taking are some of other ways in which CSD can help.
Services for Student with Disabilities: Students with disabilities, which may include acquired brain injury, low-vision or blindness, chronic illness, learning disabilities, mobility, mental health or ADHD, have the committed and continuous support of CSD staff in improvement of accessibility.
International Student Services (ISS): International students, visiting scholars, post-doctoral fellows and faculty can utilize CSD in adjusting to their new environment. The office provides advisory services and referrals to other campus resources. The ISS looks after all international exchange students, provides advice on Work and Study Abroad opportunities, and administers the University Health Insurance Plan.
ESL Support @ MAC: Throughout the academic day, classes are available to assist non-native speakers of English. Also available is one-on-one peer assistance, group-based assistance, Peer Helpers, a film club, and an advanced discussion group.

ATLAS (Assisted Technology Learning and Academic Support): The ATLAS program is for students with diagnosed learning disabilities. Through the use of an Assistive Technologist and Learning Strategist, students can be assessed for possible benefits from assistive technology. With the Learning Strategist, students can examine study skills which are most effective to them.
Peer Helper Program: Peer Helpers are undergraduate students are fully trained and supervised by CSD staff to assist students with academic, disability, personal, leadership, and other needs. There are various different categories of Peer Helpers, and it is also a great way to get involved!
Along with these services, CSD also offers academic skills online videos, a resource room, online test and exam booking for students with disabilities, and many others. I highly suggest that you check out the website, or go to the office during the school year!
