Philosophy 1B03 AND Philosophy 1D03
I am currently a science student, I went to the first class of 1D03, this really upset me in someway.
I think, whatever the prof said is really challenging my knowledge in the past 3 years in science.

So can someone who took those course, tell me more about those courses?

for 1b03, how hard is the essay? how many readings u need to do per week? and how was the final exam, what are the types of questions tested?

and as for 1d03, how was the midterms? I know this year most is short answer type question.
what kind questions he will ask in the midterms?

I feel like, if I can not agree with what he told me, I can not do well in this class at all.

so, yea, please give me some idea on those courses.

thanks a lot!

Philosophy, Law and Society is being taught by Dr. Rodde - I had him last year. He's generally not my favorite philosophy prof. but he seems to have improved this year. The co-prof. is also my former TA, Adam - great TA, I had him for first year Philosophy in Literature. I have not taken this course though, but from the looks of the syllabus you're in for a pretty good class.

For Philosophy in Science - this course has in the past been generally run as an ethics course dealing with topics such as reproductive cloning, human enhancement and other science based ethical hot topics. However, this year it seems to be (my girlfriend is in first year and in the class, so I sat in) more grounded in metaphysics and the other philosophical schools. In other words, it isn't being ran anything like before.

I had a different prof for 1B03 (Gedge), but the essays and readings were definitely manageable, the tutorials were fun because debates are always fun (and my TA was hilarious), and the course units and what not were fairly interesting.

1D03 was super easy and did not require a lot of readings! tutorials were quick and purely discussion.

I went to the 1st class and talked to Adam about the essays, he is a really fun person.
Thanks, I guess I will keep this course!

Do you think the textbook are must buys?

One more question, why the second hand book for those two courses are so hard to find?
Does the textbook changes every year?
