Is it worth buying a 3DS or 3DS XL (gravitating towards the latter) for Pokemon X/Y?

I'm just not convinced. Is it better than B/W or B/W 2? I really liked B/W and B/W 2 was pretty good but I've no idea about Pokemon X/Y in terms of mechanics, new pokemon, etc.

It's better than B2/W2, imo, but it's not better than Gen II. You can't top having 16 gyms without having at least that number.

My biggest qualm with X/Y is that it's a little too easy in single player. They made everything more streamlined so that competitive battling is more accessible, so that's where the focus of gameplay should be, in my opinion.

Whether it's worth a 3DS purchase or not, frankly, is up to your budget. The best idea is to wait for a big sale event like a Christmas sale. IIRC, they were selling 3DS XLs in Costco last Christmastime for about $160, and that's for a Mario Kart bundle.

I just bought Pokemon Y yesterday so I'm not very far in yet (just beat the 3rd gym), but it's definitely a lot of fun and I'm enjoying it. I never played any Gen V games so I'm having fun learning all the new Pokemon.

@henry4399: You add friends by going to your Friends List (it's the little happy face at the top of the main 3DS menu). Then you click Register Friend to add a friend.
