Ok thanks. I'll probably put some cardboard over the top (not the sides, or handles) and I'll put my move in information there, what do we need again? Name, residence hall, and room number?
I'm also in Bates so would I put my bedroom ie ###letter or just the room number

Name, Residence and Room. No need for the letter.

Yep, you need your name, rez and room number. Evem if you put your letter they won't know which one is which, so as long as they put everything in the common room, I'm pretty sure you can dinstinguish your stuff in there

They dont go inside your apartment. They just leave the stuff in the hallway. So the letter would be useless.

Another thing...pack everything properly! I remember helping with move-in last year and there were students bringing in lots of loose items/things not packed properly, easy for those to get lost/misplaced.
To the res reps, would you guys suggest packing fewer yet heavier boxes, or more lighter boxes?
I'm not going to lie, I would say pack lighter boxes. a lot of the time only the heaviest of things get put into the elevator (if the residence even has one)... when I repped I helped Brandon move in, and we were walking up to the 7th floor.... only 9 & 11 used the elevator (less stress on the elevators). so if you don't think you could carry the box up at least 5 flights of stairs by yourself, pack it lighter. keep in mind that the reps (both res and faculty) are helping to move people in ALL DAY, BOTH DAYS.

ah thanks. I guess that's a good rule to follow: if you can't carry it up five flights of stairs, then it's too heavy.
how many boxes per student is normal? or does it depend.. just wondering, I'm from the US so I pretty much have to bring everything in one shot.
When I moved in first year, I had I think twelve small, but light boxes. There was some grumbling until my reps realized my stuff was pretty light.
The first time I was a rep there was actually a box of bricks. I'm not kidding. A parent had a student who was already at Mac and then got their younger child to pack a box of bricks.
It was funny, but only a few days later. Doing move-in for eight hours a day in 30C heat in a polyester jumpsuit with no A/C is NOT fun.
