First years have more than ample time to use the gym.

For those of us who find working out in the gym a little boring or don't know how to get started there are personal trainers available who can help tailor your program to activities that interest you and help you achieve your goals.. what ever they are.. personal trainers can be a bit expensive.. especially for students.. but they are a valuable resource that can make your exercise program more interesting, help you stay more committed to exercise, prevent injury, and teach you new things.

Another source of exercise which is among my favourites is intramurals.. you can play anything from ulitmate frisbee, innertube water polo, soccer, volley ball, pretty much any sport you can think of. The down fall to intraumurals is that they are once a week so it's not enough alone to keep off the Lbs.. but its a start.. and a ton of fun. Intramurals vary in the level of competition from A division being the most competetive to C the least. Every team in each division is playing to win the renound Intramural Championship T-shirt so they can were it in pride around the school.. especially in the gym.

Finally another untaped resource of exercise is to participate in exercise studies commonly done in the Kinesiology department. In these studies they put you through some grooling tests but it's a great way to get started exercising and you usually get paid for it to. To find out about these experiments check out the posting boards around the IWC.

that's it for now.. and remember..

keep fit and have fun

I was looking on the Mac Daily News and found a current Kinesiology study looking for participants. This study is for recreational exercisers... people exercising less than three times a week. No intense exercise testing here just filling out some baseline information and a log book for a little while and you get paid $15. Not too shabby. Anyways here is the link.
