Your Favourite Profs
There is a post about this specifically for first year Engineering classes, and the question is always inevitably asked in the Reviews section, and when anyone asks about classes in the forums.
So, hopefully this will make this a little bit simpler.
Which profs do you recommend? What course(s) did they teach? Why are they so good?

Hayden King: Indigenous Studies classes (1A03, 1AA3, 2B03, 2D03, 3J03, 3K03). He plays devil's advocate in discussion to facilitate more discussion, easy to approach, tells random stories.
Rick Monture: Indigenous Studies (2A03, 3C03, 3CC3, the Native Lits). He is hilarious, and tells a lot of good stories. But he is also encourages students to write papers in what they're interested in and creative methods of presenting information.
Helene Strauss English/CSCT classes (3R06, others). She makes in-class discussion really easy. She lets students pursue their own areas of interest in papers, and chooses interesting material in classes.

John Valliant: Chemistry (1AA3): He had the 8:30 classes, but they did not feel like that for even a non-morning person like myself. He is passionate when he teaches and stresses things that would trick or confuse students on tests. Really great prof.

Dr. Kajiura and Dr. Locke were probably the best two profs I've had this past year. Dr. Kajiura taught Biology 1A03 and Biology 1AA3. Dr. Locke taught Chemistry 1A03 and Chemistry 1AA3.

Dr. Bayer and Dr. Wainman who were two of the many profs we had for Anatomy and Physiology (Nursing, Health Sci, Eng, Midwifery). Both had great lecture slides, simple and informative. Dr. Wainman was especially humourous and included lots of animated slides.

^ Jacobs, really? Is he better in upper years?
---
Kim Dej - such a good lecturer, and she really wants students to learn and do well. (Cell Bio 2B03)
Okon - Physics 1B03 - He was hilarious. Good lecturer.
O'Donnell (Bio 3MM3, 3ZZ3, 4X03) - He's so smart, but he moves quickly which is a nice change from profs who dwell on subjects for too long. Expects a lot from students, but he really knows his material.
McClelland (2A03, 3ZZ3, 3U03, 4X03) =p

Dr. Moro - Linguistics (1A03): She was the best professor I've had so far, during my relatively short time here at McMaster. Even though we had her class late in the afternoon on Fridays, I always came with a smile because her classes were enjoyable. You could tell she wanted everyone to do well, and presented all the material in an interesting and fun way. She always cracked a couple jokes too which was always welcome.
As for the rest of my professors, mm, they don't stand out. I had some great TAs and Instructional Assistants though.

I don't understand why people don't like Dr. Jacobs. I honestly believe he's a really great prof. The way he teaches the course should appeal to most people since he teaches in a very verbal manner AS WELL in a very visual manner.

Dr. Reid!!!! Astronomy 1F03: The BEST class I have ever had. Dr. Reid is sooo funny, he makes the material SO much fun and it's very interesting. He makes astronomy understandable for even non-physics students.
John Maclachlan ( http://www.science.mcmaster. ca/geo...lan/index.html)
He taught Enviro 1A03 and 1G03. He's really funny and young, he relates REALLY well to students. He also always tells funny true stories. He made lectures on rocks (1G03) fairly enjoyable.

My favourite prof is Dr. Ostovich, who teaches a lot of the social psychology classes (a rarity at Mac) - she teaches Psych 2AA3 (Survey of Dev Psych), Psych 2C03 (Intro to Social Psych), Psych 2S03 (Psych of Aging), Psych 3AC3 (Human Sexuality) and Psych 3CD3 (Intergroup Relations). She is an amazing lecturer and I find her classes to be very well organized.
