48 / 2*(9+3) implies 48/(2*(9+3))
=48 / (2*12)
=48 / (24)
=2

ROFLMACTOPER! Is this for real? Guys and girls... It's 288. The calculator will produce 2 if you don't put the asterisk there because of the way it's programmed to interpret a(b) vs. a*b. No one in here should be having that problem. It's division first, then multiplication by the bracket: Why? BEDMAS says so.
And for all the people saying "It's 2! Look at my math" .... Stop adding brackets. Brackets changes the equation.
Also, nothing implies anything. The equation, as provided by the OP, has a single answer. Saying "This implies that" is of your own doing.

Um....why are people giving out one answer and saying it's right? There's no way to determine unless you talk to the guy who originated the question to see what the formatting of the actual question is.
And why do people actually care about this? There's never going to be a completely correct answer because information (from the formatting) was lost through the conversion to a text based system. I.e., the question isn't what's the answer, the question is "are there brackets that were omitted or not"?
Why can't people just watch TV or something, instead of wasting their time with this stuff?

Why? Its so simple....
Brackets Exponents Division Multiplication Addition Subtraction.
If one cannot remember something that simple, its sad. This is simple math. You guys are making it more complicated than it is.

Trolls. 2 is right if you look at it from one perspective and 288 the other way. I stick with 2 only because when i see brackets I follow with them first

"binds the two to the bottom"? OH! You're right. The binding-theorem of second grade. How could I forget: All brackets have glue on their outside faces.

its 288.. bedmass
48÷2(9+3)
48/2(12) ->read left to right, you dont do 2*12 cause althoug there is a bracket, this implies multiplication. since it is multiplication, read left to right
24*12
288
