6 courses in one semester
Hey, can anyone give me their thoughts/experiences with having 6 courses in one semester? Reason I'm overloading is because I plan to work part-time during 2nd semester with a MUCH lighter load but if 6 courses is too much, I may reconsider, thanks!

I did this once and it was really tough but I also had hard science courses that semester (genetics, organic chem, anat&phys etc). Wouldn't advise overloading if your semester is already tough. If you must do it, overload with a bird course.

is it impossible to get an overload for the second semester of first year? or can overloading only be done second year and henceforth?

Totally doable, you just need to adhere to some proper time management. Last year I had 7 courses and worked part-time on weekends and still managed to do well in school. This year I have 6/7 courses, but thankfully I won't be working!

I don't think you can overload in first year. It's not recommended either, just stick with your 30 units and experience how first year is like. If you wish to overload in second year you must have a CA of 7.0 (which is why I believe you can't overload in first year since you don't have a CA yet).

then summer of first year should be doable, yes? as we'd have a CA by then.

You'll just have to manage your time.

Some programs have 6 courses per semester and they can work out ok, you just need to keep up on your work and not procrastinate (i did that a lot last year and pulled way too many all-nighters)

Yes, you would be able to overload in the summer if you wish. Just talk to an academic advisor about it, for some reason there's no information on overloading in summer in the undergraduate calendar but it should be doable.

It is possible to overload in the second semester of your first year but you will need permission from the associate dean of your faculty to do so. To get this permission, you have to murder your first semester so I'm guessing something along this lines of at least 11.0+ in everything.

its not overloading... once u have 30 units for the year its up to you how you schedule them... its only overloading when u take courses that add up to more than full time

so if u have 12 units one term and 18 the other its fine and you dont need permission

i took 6 courses the second sem of first year (im in science) and i wouldnt recommend it.. felt like a zombie

im gonna have to do 6 in one semester again this year because of the weird weightin of one of my courses... i think it should be better though since im more used to university life
