Adding/Dropping courses during the strike
I want two courses that I am not currently enrolled in. One of them is strongly recommended for Honours Thesis people like me, the other would just be good to take because the subject is interesting and allows me to have Firday off.
I remember we had an e-mail about maybe not being able to add or drop after Sept 1. I can get into SOLAR fine and all but these courses are both full, what action should I take?
Btw I am in Soc Sci.

I think i would e-mail the faculty/department of the courses that you want and request a spot. Or you can call them!
Hope that helps

That e-mail was IN CASE of a strike.
At this point there is no strike going on so you should be able to drop and add via SOLAR still.
The final offer was rejected but thus far the decision has been made not to strike.

The Add/Drop deadling for term 1 and term 3 courses is September 21st. For term 2 courses it's Jan 13th.
Like R.L. said, try contacting them. If they deny you, you'll just have to keep checking to see if a spot opens up. A lot of people drop courses for various reasons.

Yup you get full refund if you drop by sept 21. If you drop after that day, then you'll get partial refund and amount depends on the date you drop.

After the drop/add deadling, it's actually termed "cancelling". Here's where you can find the dates and percentage of refunds given: http://www.mcmaster.ca/bms/student/p...ncellation.pdf

Make sure you add the other courses before you drop Sociology 1A03.

Yea =D I made sure that I did that. Ok, so now that i've added a new course and deleted sociology, I can just go to the new course right? There isnt anything else that I have to do to make it official? Like im worried that my new course wont show up on ELM because im not officially registered in the course.
Sorry, it just seems too easy to me, I was expecting it to be alot of paperwork...

Yeah, just attend the new course. You'll see the change in your timetable about an hour after you've made the switch.
You'll have to give about 1-2 days for the course to show up on ELM (Maybe even longer because of the current situation), but if it doesn't show up after that then just talk to your professor.
