Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh h
$&&% YOU MUGSI.

Seriously only 4th years get to pick courses today AND YOU ARE FULL .

WTF. THAT IS SUCH A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS COMPARED TO OTHER YEARS.

For all you upcoming 1st years if you knew about mugsi I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have picked MAC. Mugsi is a prime example of the attitude of the administration at MAC.

I feel your pain and have been dreading this day since last year's course selection -______-. Hang in there, I know it can't get any worse... (I hope so anyway :S)

Honestly, there'd probably be a lot less anger and resentment if people took the time to understand how Solar worked. (Still frustration, but less rage)

Just because you get first pick, doesn't mean they're going to let all 2394823902 fourth year students free for all for every single spot in a first year class.

Get your requireds, those will NEVER be full.
Hope for some ****ing non-garbage electives. Who cares what they are, as long as they're non-garbage.

Then hope you actually get electives you want when the spots open up. But expect to get stuck with your original selection.

You got first pick, that's great. Put if you're trying to register for a good first year course right now, you're probably competing with EVERY 4th year online atm for probably about 4-5 spots.

No Please, not The Bunnies! D:

That said, you're making me dread my course-selection more so than I already was. Oh, the horror. :/

I just found out the other day that $1 of our tuition goes to MUGSI. Yes, I realize it's only a dollar, but FOR THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO GO HERE that's a lot of money. I can't believe we're PAYING for this system!

Luckily I don't have to worry about anything. All the courses in my major are required, so if it somehow got full, I can still get a seat.

You poor souls.

Wait.
Are you saying you're impressed with ~20k a year going to a system that's going to take MILLIONS of dollars to overhaul?

My tuition costs 7k a year. A university with an 800mil budget allocates 20k a year to one of its VITAL components. Sad.

Alrighty, few things..First of all Lizzie your quote/factoid is inaccurate, the University spends much more then $1 a student on the system.

Secondly McMaster has already committed $25-30 Million to an overhaul of the entire McMaster IT Infrastructure and MUGSI/SOLAR is first in line to be replaced given how much anguish it causes students. The money was allocated around March 2010 and since then I've been an appointed member of the Systems Renewal Steering Committee as the Student Representative regularly providing my input at every step of the long project to ensure capacity and features(eg: Waitlisting, course space meters etc) are student centered.

It's June 2011 now and the project is still progressing at a relatively cautious pace as expected of a decentralized University Organizational environment where you have 50 stakeholders each competing for their differing interests, all trying to get on the same page.

At this point the earliest time by which we will have MUGSI Overhaul is Registration Season 2012 if everything goes to plan, if not then Summer 2013. I understand most of you would have graduated by then but unfortunately this is a ERP Project(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enterpr...rce_p lanning) and they take a meticulously long time to plan out due to their sensitivity.

Tl;Dr: Mac Invested $30 Million Last year on IT Systems, Better MUGSI expected by 2012 or at most 2013. Impossible to speed it up.

p.s: Despite the $800 Mil budget, it's still in a $150ish Million Deficit because of a number of factors(inflation, tuition freezes, decrease in government funding, tanked pension plan investments)

Ok so Mac promises 2013, I'd expect 2017 then.

Well tbh this project has been a high priority for McMaster so far, primarily because it fundamentally changes how every single department on campus operates(remember the entire project is more then just MUGSI) and hence they are all now in limbo phase between the 20th and 21st century business operations, similarly they also have to allocate a decent amount of time and intellectual capital to completing their respective requirements for this project; so aka further incentive for them to speed it up.

That's why I went as far as saying even 2012 is a possible date

I guess I have nothing to look forward to in terms of Mugsi getting better.
