Any bell curving? (math 1a03)
Is there any type of bell curving on the final exam/final mark for math 1a03? Class avg. is extremely low (61%) Also, how'd the final exam compare to the midterms?

61% isn't that low. They probably won't bell curve or shift the grades upwards, but ultimately it depends on the prof. I don't remember either the midterm or exam being that challenging.

I agree with starfish, you'll start getting used to the fact that many University courses have averages around that range, and usually indicates to professors that the tests are fine and fair. I remember the Physics 1B03 averages, for example, being below 50% in my year and that was still 'fine' with the prof.

Likely won't be any bell curving (I've never encountered any, though I've mainly only taken science courses) so it's just safer to expect and prepare for the fact that whatever mark you end up with is going to be your actual final mark.

61% is a bit on the low side, but that doesn't mean they'll adjust it unfortunately :(. First year class averages are usually hovering around mid-60s to low-70s. On the bright side, you do know what kind of questions to expect now, so hopefully the second midterm and exam will be a bit better!

As far as I know, there isn't any bell curving in math 1a03 unless the average is very low. 61% isn't that low especially for the first midterm. If I recall correctly, the average for the first midterm last year was 59% and it did not get bell curved. I found the second midterm to be around the same difficulty as the first one and the exam to be slightly harder.

I wouldn't even bother to think of that. People are different and they think different. What other people get or how well do the class do does not matter. What matter is what I have done and what I will do. Ever since high school I am surprised by the class average, and I am already used to that.

oh, the average is only low because they combined the averages with the engineers when calculating the avg. the science student avg for this test is higher than 61% by a lot. the engineers brought the avg down lol.

get used to seeing low averages, they are pretty normal.
if the average is in the fifties then maybe the prof will be nice and bell curve it.
