Archery
Any archers here at Mac? I'm looking for a local range of sorts, or at least people to share interests with.

Great question, I'd like to know this too.

You can look up the local SCA chapter though they shoot with traditional weapons. However, there's no harm asking them if they know any near by ranges!

I'm going to try to see if something can we worked out with MacAth where we borrow their space at offhours, just need to gauge interest. For now it'll be you bring your own equipment, until I can get some funding or support from local shops.

Better question, does anyone here have their own equipment as well? Or FITA targets? I want to see how much money might be needed.

I took a few lessons several years ago and really liked it. I don't have any of my own equipment, but if/when you get the funding, I'd be interested in trying it out again.

Would it be possible to set up our own range somewhere on campus? I just found the public archery range in Seton Park this summer so I already got a quiver full of arrows and a basic bow.

This is Jenna from Facebook, got your message! Hopefully stuff works out on the director's end...
I have access to plenty of targets, and I've got a riser with low-poundage limbs that I could lend out. Also got a spare arm guard, chest guard and about a dozen arrows lying around; anyone would be welcome to use it all, just need to get your own string.

Hi Jenna, strings are cheap so that's not a huge issue. We'd need to set up a backstop if it's indoor and I somehow doubt they'll let us use the football field as awesome as that would be.

That's what I'm trying to figure out now, if MacAth approves the safety I'm sure we won't have a huge issue trying to find a site. If they don't approve well we'll need to look elsewhere.

Won't be a club as ratification and application for this year has passed, but if I can get an association or informal club going this year I'm more than willing to push the paperwork for next year.

A few big thick blocks of foam from the hardware store would do it, I don't think anyone would be pulling enough weight to shoot through that.
