Becoming a TA
Does anyone know when applications/interviews etc. come out for applying to be a TA for 2008/2009?

Go to your Faculty Office and usually they post T.A. positions outside of the office on a bulletin board. Or you can simply e-mail someone in the office, or speak to them in person, and they'll give you the details and/or the forms. It usually requires you to ask which courses are available, and then hand in a coverletter and resume to the Faculty/Department office.

It really depends on your program/faculty. For most Humanities and Soc Sci courses you have to be a grad student to be a TA. There are sometimes fourth year students who are TA's, but they usually have close relationships with professors who are teaching the class. In order to do so (if possible) you need a high average in the courses of your program, as well as in the class you would be TA-ing.
However if you're in science or eng, however you can be a marking TA starting in second year.

When the ads come out depends heavily on faculty and department. I know within Sociology it can be as late as August and even September/October.

Ask the secretary for the department.
