No one can really tell you which ones are the best and worst residences since the majority of people only live in one residence at McMaster and either like it or they don't. It would be unfair to say another residence is worse if you haven't actually lived in it. There are pros and cons to each residence. It comes down to what you make of it and take out of your residence experience.
Each residence has its fair share of parties. How 'wild' a residence is varies from year to year.

it's difficult to say. because students don't get any preference on their building when they apply to residence, there isn't any res in particular that draws the party crowd or the non-party crowd. you'll probably get a mix of both crowds no matter which building you're placed in.

like rammramm said, every res has parties. it's just something you've gotta expect!

They're bigger, they're better, size does matter. Brandon Hall = Numero Uno.

Speaking only of the building and not the people in it... I loved Hedden but loathed Matthews.

I found in my year bates had a lot of parties just based on the style of housing. When you have your own room that you can lock as well as a large common area with a tv, chairs, and tables I think this definitely draws a crowd and makes it a bit easier. Keyes also has this set up, but I found more upper years lived there and they typically kept to themselves compared to the first years. Again, this is just based on my experience and it could definitely change.

Not to scare you away from it, but there is a large gap below the doors so its easy to get noise complaints and the stairwells look like a jail. Because the residence is divided into towers instead of floors, it is difficult to socialize and because noise spreads easily, being loud and fun anywhere is quickly corrected if you have any **** CA's. Also, there is always a nice bathroom and a crappy bathroom that you share with your section and the good/crap bathroom switches gender between sections, so hopefully you get a nice one. The good thing about Matthews is that there are multiple entrances/exits so bringing guests in is really easy.
