If it's with Dr. Dej, I recommend studying everything. Those pathways you thought were too much detail? They will be tested. Her exams are very heavy on the specifics.

understand the interdependence between molecules, proteins, and genes..or diagrams if they are provided!

No. Not really. Any application questions still require heavy memorization. This is not an exam anybody can BS through.

Memorize everything! Don't skim the graphs, she asked us to draw the curves/graphs depending on the conditions she lists, so you actually have to know how it works.
Understand the pathways so that you know what happens at each protein, she will ask specific details about them.
All the questions require you to have memorized the material, even the application ones like making graphs for conditions.

I found that writing everything down and representing pathways in images while I studied was very helpful in retaining and reproducing them.
