Biochem 2EE3 without Organic Chemistry?
Hi everyone! So I'm considering taking Biochem 2EE3 this term, but I have not yet completed orgo. I have already obtained a waiver from the department of biochemistry and am allowed to take the course. The issue now is that I am worried that I will be at a significant disadvantage for not having taken orgo prior to this course (it is, after all, a prerequisite). I know this is a unique situation, but does anyone have any comments or words of advice? Thanks!

dont take it because its not fair to others that only health scis are allowed the waiver.

Wait seriously? Healthscis get a waiver for this course just by asking? I knew that the faculty was pretty taken care of by Mac but cmon... I remember friends trying to get into that course pretty hard in the past to no avail

Yep health scis get a waiver one of my friends is in third year health sci and has no intentions of doing organic chemistry but still took this course this year. He got a waiver and its only because he's in health sci. Sad life for all other faculties :(

Has anyone considered that perhaps its the fact that health scis have taken other mandatory courses that taught content similar to organic chemistry in their prior years that would allow them to waive the prerequisite, rather than it being special treatment?

Best to not assume kids.

I'd actually like an answer to this question. As far as a cursory glance at the health sciences courses, nothing really seems like it would provide nearly the depth in organic chemistry that something like 2OA3 would cover. So if anyone wants to enlighten me as to whether or not a course like like that exists in the health sciences, I'd love to hear it.

If that was true, then it would be listed as a prerequisite and you wouldn't see so many health sci students actually taking organic chemistry.

It's because health scis take HTH SCI 2E03 which covers enough biochemistry/orgo to get through 2EE3.

Out of curiosity, what's the organic content of 2E03? I'm going to assume it at least covers more than what appears in chem 1AA3.

this makes no sense. why do they take orgo then? why is this course not listed as a prereq? i live with 3 health scis. they told me its just something that they can do and dont even know why themselves.
