bahaah u know it (biochem >> all ;D) I agree that interest and success are strongly correlated which is why i'm glad i chose biochem. Though difficult, it's material that has interested me since gr 11 and i've wanted to pursue biochem since then (can YOU say keener?! haha)
I think where I lacked in first year was balance. I was so caught up in marks and whatnot that I lost sight of what was important - the material itself. That and the Friday night midterms didn't help much either..buzkill!
Looks like you're going into th best year of biochem (3rd year = more electives?)

Only for Core =[

Molecular biology specialization students have 6-9 units of electives in third year and only 3 units of electives if you're in Co-op.

Can you pick your specilization after 2nd year? i am not sure what to go into yet...
also are you planning to take the 3rd year health science courses in immunology and virulogy?
id like to do a specialization but I'd like some room for some easy electives so that my Cgpa can be raised, but then again I don't want to take a bunch of courses which dont contribute to my degree, I am not sure what to do to consolidate these two issues....

Theoretically yes, since core and specialization take the exact same courses in 2nd year. It gets tricky after third year though.

Biochem students take that class in fourth year

You said earlier that you're considering graduate school, and unless you work/volunteer in a lab outside of class you won't have enough lab time to apply to grad school in core alone. Furthermore, specialization students write an undergrad thesis which you need in graduate school anyway.

I think for second year, you should choose specialization to keep your options (specifically for graduate school) open. Specialization and core students take the same classes, so you can get a feel of the program and like zango said, it's much easier dropping down to core from specialization than the other way around.

And in terms of taking courses which 'don't contribute to your degree', it's perfectly fine to diversify your academic portfolio. That's why you're given electives to begin with; take whatever classes interest you.

Okay, that sounds like a good idea...
I mean I thought I would have enough lab experience from the 2l06 course....
I am already working in tje summer already but I guess it wouldn't help to have more experience...
Thanks for the help!
Oh are you doing co-op? Is it beneficial?

You make money while doing co-op and you also get work experience in the field.

^^^Bingo. Those are the two big reasons why I'm doing Co-op.

Do you guys know why biochem 2ee3 is blocked for us biochem students? I mean there is a crosslisted biochem course in third year... Is that one harder than biochem 2ee3 as I have heard good things about 2ee3

2EE3 is specifically for non-biochem students. You learn the same content and then some in 2B03 and 2BB3.

Hey I was wondering
did any biochem students plan to take minors in biology or chemistry
because a minor in Chem is only 4 courses away, and it would look relatively impressive
