Biological Science vol 1&2 vs vol 1 + vol 2 textbook?
So for Bio 1a03 the required text book is "Custom Biological Science Vol 1"
and for Bio 1m03 it's """ Vol 2"
and under both for optional materials theres """ Vol 1 &2 "
So my question is ... is it the same thing if i just buy the optional textbook versus buying 2 separate textbooks ?

It's optional because not all students take both biology courses. So yes, if you are taking both courses then you should buy the package since it's cheaper.

you might want to check to make sure that the optional "vol 1&2" is in fact a package of the two separate books though, not one hardcover with both volumes in one large book. it may not make a difference to you, but if you have one large text, its annoying to carry around if you decide to take it to the library or something to study, because your essentially lugging around the other half of the book that you don't even need for that term. separate paperbacks are much easier to deal with.
just something to think about when your buying

They were two separate paperbacks when I bought them 2 years ago, so I think it should be the same.

Reqired material for BIO 1A03 is listed as "FREEMAN-KAJIURA/PECHENIK - CUSTOM BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE (VOL 1)(INCL. SHORT GUIDE)(2 BOOKS)"
Why is the title "Custom Biological Science"? Is it just because the Writing Guide is included in the package? Also, why is Kajiura listed as an author?

It's custom because Kajiura wrote stuff in the book. The book is probably only being sold at McMaster.

I'd love to see this "custom" book. Think they'll have the course reserves running on the first day?
(I'll bet $5 it opens with an author's preface, where she details how "When I was a first year....")

LOL!!!!!!!!!!
That would make my LIFE.
I saw it briefly the other day, it looks very similar to the previous version of the textbook (the one we used for the last two years)...so I really don't know how much has changed...probably little study tips and stories randomly inserted between chapters or something

And emphasis on "understanding!" and how structure relates to function.

Maybe it has a map of each classroom and where she used to sit when she was in first year...

Okay so I was going to buy those books (volume 1 & 2 biology) from a 2nd year student; until she claimed that the bio books from last year have changed and are dissimilar from what we are to use this year.... I was under the impression that only chemistry changed its edition (9th to 10th) and Biology was out of my worry. Now I want to clarify whether or not there is any truth to what she was saying -___-
Thanks in advance!

There are a couple of threads about this already...the books this year are different because they're "Custom Biological Science" instead of just "Biological Science", the difference being that Kajiura coauthored this version. It appears to be based off of the same edition that was used last year, but no one really knows how much of the books she changed. It seems likely that she'll rely more heavily on the textbook though, since she wrote it.
