Biology 2A03- Animal Physiology
I'm taking this class next semester and I heard that one of the labs involves a live mouse.
Has anyone taken this course? Can you confirm this?
I want to take this course because it is a prerequisite for many other courses that I would like to take but I have a terrible fear of mice and other furry creatures (yes, I know it's strange)!
Please let me know if this is true or if any of the labs involve other animals as well!
Thank you!

Yes, one of the labs involves mice. If you don't want to though, you don't have to handle the mice.

ugh that lab was such a fail. If nothing happens, borrow someone else's equipment asap. My TA said we were doing it wrong but it turns out we had faulty equipment -_-

Ok so it's only the one time to place them in the container? That would relieve a lot of anxiety for me! lol
But what about taking them out of the container?
I'm unfamiliar with what the lab actually entails but the person who told me made it seem that there were a few different occasions for touching them.

If you can avoid this course, it would be better!

I cried almost everyday because of that course :(

Yes, you can still get a decent mark. The tests plus exam together are 70% of your mark and are easy to do well in. The labs on the other hand depend on your TA but in general are hard. Also, if possible, try to get as much feedback on your lab reports after you get your first one back to improve because sometimes the TAs are not very clear of their expectations or guidelines and if you do not follow it, you will lose marks.

There were 2 semi-formal labs and 2 formal labs and they required A LOT of time. The labs take up so much time and are so frustrating to find research on and then write. The test had averages in the low to mid 70s I think and average for the labs were low 70s I think. So, it is very possible to get a decent mark but it requires more time than most of your courses.

The mouse lab wasn't bad at all.
Just grab one by the tail and drop it into a jar, and that's the end of contact between you two!
Here's a pic I snapped last year from the lab.

Students don't kill the mice but they do have to be killed after (probably due to costs if all the mice were to be kept for the year). As a result, they have mice adoptions for anyone who wants to adopt a mouse. They also have goldfish adoptions (I don't remember if 2A03 had fish or if it was 3U03).

I want to adapt one!! How can I do this?

Are you sure they kill mice...? I mean, that's animal cruelty right there.
