Hey everyone! I got into biopharm as well!
It should be an interesting year.. I can see Arjun is already all over this haha. I'm not too sure if I've met everyone else, and I apologize if I have and have forgotten.
As far as electives go, what has everyone registered for? and is anyone here a sci-co for this welcome week??

Neetu: I haven't taken 3H03..clinical biochem i believe. but i've heard mixed reviews. Most of the people I know have not liked it but there's a few who did enjoy it. I took 3D03, metabolism which I enjoyed

Hi guys! This is sort of unrelated, but I think you guys might be the one to know.
How many people did they accept into the pharmacology coop prgram in ur year? And, what's the average of the people who got accepted?
Thank you! I really appreciate your help! =]

They accept 20 people and you need a min CA of 6.0

I think they accepted about 20 people into the program (or atleast that's what they said about previous years). The interview and written portion of the application seemed to play a pretty important role, and I was told when I applied, that this program is known for taking students from a whole spectrum of GPAs because of the other two parts of admission (as long as you meet the minimum requirements)! Hope that helps!

Like everyone above already mentioned the minimum CA is 6.0, but having the highest gpa isnt everything. Be sure to volunteer and be a well rounded indivdual, because school is more than just classes . Your interview and and application definetely play a HUGE part. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

Thank you so much for your fast reply guys! =D
I’m worried about the written portion the most. =[ It’s an essay that you write on the spot or something like a supplementary application that you write at home?
Moreover, should I take science 2C00 now or take it after the acceptance (since I won’t know if I actually get in or not)? Lastly, when do they announce whether you got accepted or not?

Glad to see some enthusiasm! Ok lets get to your questions. The written portion consists of 2 questions you must answer each being a page in length max (single spaced), so its not difficult, just be honest. As far as Science 2C00 goes I suggest you take it during the school year, BEFORE applying (either first or second term it doesnt matter when during the year its taken). This is because it helps big time with resume building, interview tips, and in general how to secure jobs out there. So its a good idea to have all those skills and ideas reinforced before you step into your biopharm interview or before you start preparing your resume and cover letter for the application. So whether you apply or not, get in or not, taking SCI 2C00 is beneficial. As far as announcing when you get in, that is done after final grades for the entire year have been handed out. Usually May is when you will know, and that is exactly when we heard about our admissions this year. Hope that clarifies things for you, feel free to ask anything else .

Just to completely clarify the whole "20 people" thing. There is a maximum of twenty spots available in biopharm, and at least the class of 2011 and 2012 (and I'm assuming 2013 as well) have all had a full enrolment of 20 people. However, there were far fewer people who applied for the class of 2010, and only 10 were accepted into the program that year. Basically, just because there are twenty spots doesn't mean that twenty people will get in. The best advice I can give you is what everyone else has already said - write a great application and let your personality shine through in the interview. "Canned" answers will get you nowhere - it is your unique experiences and view on learning that the selection committee want to hear about.
Also to clear up any lingering questions about the application...the questions are answered and submitted online. I believe the application goes up on OSCAR in December, and is due by mid-late February. Interviews are scheduled in late March-early April.

I did not have science2C00 completed, but got an offer without it =D. none the less, it is a helpful course.

2C00..definitely not something you HAVE to take before applying. As someone already mentioned, it can be useful if you are lost creating your resume, however it's not your only option. I didn't taken 2C00 until September this year after I was accepted but I still booked resume critiques with SCCE and asked for feedback before the interview. The course actually seemed even easier taking it in the fall since I had already done everything!

Thank you scrub, sarah, kangs and ashlie for the detailed info!! =D
Yeah, I guess it is a good idea to do SC00! I'm taking it in 2nd sem, since first sem is already full!
Um... do they require references or reference letters?
Thx a bunch! =]
