What to Bring to Class on the First Day?
Classes start on Sept 9 for first year students, and I have no idea what stuff I need to bring to my classes. Do we need our binders and a laptop for the first day?

Most classes only have an introduction of the course, such as an outline. Some classes begin lessons on the very first day.
Your best bet would be to jusbring a notebook and some writing utensils. Not your laptop unless you plan to browse the internet while at school on the first day

Laptops will serve to distract you. If you want your monies worth, bring some paper and a pen. Maybe a second pen for underlining/highlighting.

Yourself. Your wallet. Your cellphone. Your pen. Your paper. Your glasses (if it applies).
Nothing else! (well maybe feminine thingies if you're a girl)

If that's the route you're going to take, then I guess first year Science classes are going to find themselves with a naked person, possibly wearing glasses, juggling her pen and paper in one hand and her phone, wallet and potential feminine products in the other. =p

Actually it would be a good idea for you to check AVENUE TO LEARN ( http://avenue.mcmaster.ca/) -- log in there with your macID and password. The courses should be up there before the first classes and often they post up intro slides that you can print out if you want.

I'm just going to bring a pad of paper and some writing utensils. I'm going to buy what I think I need afterwards (perhaps on the weekend) such as binders, notebooks, quad paper, etc.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND: A clipboard with individual sheets in it, if you plan on taking notes.
That way, you can take the sheets out after and place them in organized binders, not having to take the binders everywhere I just write the course name int he top corner so i dont get confused. Worked like a charm!

Yup! Started using just a clipboard last year and it was so much easier. Pen and clipboard with paper is all you need!
