BSB Electrical Problems & Power Outage
Electrical Transformer Down in BSB
A power outtaged occured this morning on campus due to an electrical transformer problem in BSB which caused all power to be lost in BSB, as well as JHE and other buildings.
Update 12:50PM: Both BSB and JHE open again. Building was evacuated due to concerns of fumes from an experiment happening in one of the labs using hydrofluoric acid getting into the ventilation since the fume hoods were not functioning after the power went out. Full story can be found at the Hamilton Spectator's website.
Via The Hamilton Spectator:
"Fire personnel aren’t sure what caused the initial electrical problem in the Burke Science Building. Witnesses saw smoke, though no fire was reported, Verbeek said."
Update: Some areas of the building may not be accessible as the problems are corrected. Discussion about the outage is happening in our dicussion forums, feel free to add updates as you hear them here. Thanks to Kevin for posting information. It has also been reported that the Psychology Building also experienced a power outage.
Via Daily News:
"An electrical problem on campus Wednesday morning caused power outages in several buildings. While most power is back on, the Burke Science Building and John Hodgins Engineering Building likely won't be open until after 12:30 p.m. when full power is expected to be restored.
Students who have missed classes, exams or the opportunity to hand in assignments because of the outage should contact their instructor."
