It's pretty neat and definitely worth going to at least once.
I think I've seen the same default show three times now, and I learned something new each time. If nothing else, it'll make you feel extremely insignificant (in a cool way!)
I'd like to go again to see one of the themed shows one day.

my neck hurt because I was looking up the entire time, but it was a very cool show, talking about dark matter and black holes. Makes you feel very insignificant.

I usually do so a week in advance, and there are only a few seats left. But if you sign up last-minute, there's usually a decent amount (5 or 6) because some people cancel.
Either way, even when all the tickets are booked, when I go there are at least 5 empty seats. I've gone pretty often this year and it's only been filled once. So even if it's booked, it's worth the trip to go anyway and see if spots are open.
