building/modding guitars and effects
anyone else out there like to do this sort of thing? Anything from guitars and basses, effects, amps, making your own cables etc.

I do. Built a bunch of pedals from kits, some from schematics, etc.

All my guitars are modded in a way. From electronics, pots, caps, to pick-ups, to parts-o-casters, tuners, etc.
I do my own setups, action, nut filing, fret leveling, crowning, etc.

I've built a couple of amps from a kit. A Ceriatone and a Trinity amp.

I build my own patch cords as well.

sweet! Ive done a lot of guitar wiring and effects modding and have dabbled in painting and effects building. I currently have a guitar in the makes (from scratch) and my next pedal build will be a lovepedal eternity clone. Whats your rig look like? Im Michael btw, in first year

Cool. I kind of scaled down a bit before school started as I don't play most of them but here's
some of what I have.

Pedals - I have a bunch.

Several amps.

And some guitars.

I'm VastHorizon.

The guitar you're building from scratch - it's based on what type? Les Paul, Strat, or a custom? Rig pics?

I envy your awesome guitar collection vasthorizon lol. very impressive!
I've always wanted to build a custom guitar, get parts from warmoth and all, but have no clue how (and not enough money). The only mods I've had done are pickup swaps, strap locks, and changing knobs.

Thanks, Adam.

Warmoth is a great company and I've built Strats for friends using their parts.

But for a budget guitar, look into Guitar Fetish (also known as GFS). You can build
a great Tele/Strat for less than $300 - shipping included.

I do a lot of guitar work for friends and the only payment I ask is in beer currency. LOL.
I always have fun doing guitar related stuff and it gives me the opportunity to try out different
gear as well.

I like electronics so I've made some small modifications to some of my gear here and there. Right now I'm modding my Danelectro Fab Echo pedal with a delay time pot and making it self-oscillate.
Over the summer, I also built this small amp:

Awesome! I tried modding my Fab Chorus just for kicks and as it turns out, the components
are way too small and with it being mounted on a small PCB doesn't help either. LOL!

What amp is it based from? Is it tube or solid-state? Is that a 4-inch speaker?

I haven't built my own basses but I've done quite a few mods to mine.
I have an Ibanez EDC705 that I've slapped on a pair of Bartolini soapbars on and an Aguilar preamp.

I also have a heavily modified Rogue 6 string bass.
Defretted and have a real smooth coat of epoxy on it with black nylon strings; It's also got bartolini jazz p/us and a 5 band Aguilar preamp.

my main rig is : esp eclipse (emg 81 and 60.. going to swap when i get the chance) -> crybaby -> Solidgoldfx Funk Box -> HBE Philocybe ->Orange Rocker 30 Combo. I might use my boss me-50 if i want some delay or something but thats temporary and im trying to phase it out.

my squier (used to be red)

the shape of the guitar im building (bloodwood top with swamp ash body). Its going to be HSH with a wiring scheme that i drew up that allows it to have all the possibilities of a strat and a LP combined with a master volume and tone

^sweet little amp up there!

^ and i definitely want to meet you michelle! you sound way too cool to be a girl haha

Awesome, dude!

Have you thought about putting P90's on your custom guitar? I think it looks [email protected]!

My pedalboard keeps on evolving but here's what I have.

Guitar > Crybaby Wah > Ross Clone Compressor > Peterson Strobostomp Tuner >
MXR M-108 10-band EQ > Vexter Box of Rock > Paul Cochrane Tim > Heavily Modded Boss DS-1 > MXR KFK-1 10-band EQ > Amp

Effects loop > Boss CE-2 > TC Electronics Nova Delay > Boss DM-2 > MXR M-108 EQ > Return Loop

Yes, I have three EQ's, three distortions, and two delays in my chain.

haha no p-90s for this one! its more of a heavy rock guitar... floyd rose and all
when i get a decent picture of how the body looks right now ill show you, the bloodwood is so sick

haha i have a friend who's a pedal fiend also so all of that excess is mostly normal for me (exept the 2 eq's, now thats just overkill ).

How do you like the TC Nova Delay btw? Thats kinda what i was thinking for my future delay pedal. Anything else you wish you got instead?
