Way to rub it in my face, Larry. Jk, but congrats on the offer! McKay is awesome . Hm, I'm just at a loss now, though. I want to stay on residence, but if I apply right now and pay the deposit, and then I get selected for CA I would have to go for a refund. However, I'd only get 300 of the 600$ deposit returned to me, right?

Well, if you get selected as a CA, I believe the deposit would still count to your res fees. Being a CA means receiving a fixed pay every 2 weeks, but housing is not "deducted". You pay the university X amount of money and they pay you back a portion of that as your CA salary.

Oooh that makes sense. Here's hoping someone declines their offer XDXD. I doubt it though.

You may be surprised. People might not get into their res of choice, find the commitment too long, find training too long or just want different things out of their year.

For those on the alternate team, you still have a chance. There may be someone who was hoping for a smaller residence and got Brandon. Or as someone else said, there are other reasons why people decline their offer.
I was on the alternate team and I got an offer in the middle of June. So don't lose hope.
I also know people who got chosen the last week before training started, or even days before. So there is still a chance. It is frustrating not to know though as you try to figure out where to live next year.

But then what about the training in August that we'd miss out on?

They would find a way to make up for lost training. I knew a CA who was hired in January/February and received some formal training and then was trained on the job.

If someone accepts the job, and then suddenly decides to back out in the middle of the summer...would they lose the ability to apply to residence as well?

No, as long as you submit everything (your application, deposit, etc.) in time via the Residence Portal. Declining to be a CA doesn't mean you are declining your offer to stay in residence. The two are not related to each other in any way.

Oooh, I was just confused, since a CA would be getting a certain room right? If you decide not to be a CA, would they just assign you another room? Just worried, because residence space seems really tight, judging from this year.

For those of you who may have gotten rejected, waitlisted, or buildings you aren't happy with, if you're still interested in a leadership position in residence, most buildings are still in nomination period for IRC. They are different jobs, but if your main goals are getting to meet a lot of awesome students, helping people out in their transition into university, running some fun events, and basically making residence a better place and getting some leadership experience while in residence, it's definitely worth considering! Plus, with IRC you get to run for a specific building, so basically you can choose where you live.
