you get to leave everything the way it is!
you don't have to move everything out and move them all back in, don't worry!
you'll just have to close windows, turn off all electronics and unplug them, throw all your garbage. and other stuff that you will know when the time comes closer!

Wohoo!!! I wasn't looking forward to taking everything down (and it didn't make much sense either). Excellent that we don't have to! =D Yay simplicity!

Just don't leave stuff in the fridge! All your food will rot and make your room all stinky for when you come back! Trust me, I know...

When does the break start? I remember McMaster had a website page that said when the school starts, all the break/holidays in between and the end of school. I can't seem to find it anymore though. Does anyone have that bookmarked? Thanks

There's usually a move-in day. Where there is a specific day that everyone can move-in. Nobody can move-in before that date. I don't know of what the date is, but you will find out sometime before the christmas break.

It's the day before classes start, starting 7am...which according to my handy-dandy calendar is Sunday January 4th.

Do we HAVE to move out during Christmas Break (not that I don't want to or anything...)?

I believe you do have to move out. It's like that at other universities, so I'm guessing it's like that at Mac too. But if it's like other universities you should be able to fill out a form to stay at Mac. You'll have to have a good reason and probably have to pay some cash.

You do have to move out, yes. And perhaps unlike other universities, there is absolutely no way you can stay over the break under any circumstances, payment or not. This is because all the support services that essentially keep residence running also go on vacation over the break - so there would be no food available, no custodial staff, no physical plant people watching over the heating/maintenance, etc.
It's tough for international students in particular - I believe the Office of the International Students’ Advisor actually compiles a list of families in the area who are willing to billet students over the break, since it can obviously cost thousands to fly home for some people, and they are essentially kicked out of residence.
