Clinical Placements?
I was looking through various programs and it says that some require clinical placements during the summer break period. I was wondering what clinical placements are. Is it like training where you get paid or is it just training required as part of the program?

Usually a placement is unpaid, and you pay tuition to participate in it. Usually it's graded on a Pass of Fail basis and you do not get a specific grade for it. For social work we have to do two full year placements concurrent with a seminar. Usually they're done in various agencies and settings around Hamilton.

Clinicals could also be set throughout Ontario if there isn't enough placement in Hamilton (Hospital Clinicals for example).

It's definitely unpaid. Are you looking to do it through a specific program i.e. are you in nursing for example? Or just as experience?

For Med Rad, the clinicals are all over Ontario.

I'm sure you'll be able to find more information at the beginning of the school year, I believe through the SCEE. Or maybe the MedRadSci department.

Oh right, it's also unpaid and you if you get placed away from home then you have to find your own housing and pay for it out of your pocket.

Yeah, unfortunately you'd have to pay to work. :(
For MedRadSci, the placements are all over southern Ontario (so don't worry, you won't be placed in Moosonee). You may get lucky and get a place wherever you live or nearby. Or you may be placed somewhere you've never heard of. I can't speak for the Radiography and Ultrasonography people, but for Radiation Therapy they're in Mississauga, Hamilton, Kitchener, London, and Windsor. They're all cities, so it'll be a bit better if you are of the urban type.
Clincials make up the summer at the end of Year 2 and the entire Year 4.
Well, you havent even started first year yet, so it's a bit premature to worry about it?

It's all lottery. In Ultrasound they have 3 different categories: Local, Transit (or something that means driving to) and Relocation. The only problem is that everything is sorted via their distance from Hamilton. So if you live in Ottawa, Hamilton is still considered local.
If in the first placement you got placed in Relocate, then you are placed on a "protection" list. It doesn't mean anything. Basically it means that you are placed in a group with other people on the "protection" list and there are 2 lotteries. 1 for those in protection and a second for everyone else. Protection get "first dibs" But it's still based on lottery and the way they do lottery is so messed up that you can still be placed in relocate.

They believe it's the fairest way to assign things because in our society you can't earn something over someone else, you are equal in every way.
