What is the deal with this course?

Is it something completed during the year in addition to normal classes or is it done in the summer?

Are there actual assignments and tests or is it just used to pass on information about the commerce degree?

It's completed during the year.

It's mandatory and they take attendance via iClickers.
There's also a bunch of online quizzes I had to complete every week (nothing actually hard, and I'm pretty sure they didn't actually care what you got as long as you completed them)

You don't actually get graded though. It's a pass/fail course which really solely depends on your attendance and suff.

There was an "assignment" for people who were at risk of failing the course (i.e. they skipped or just didn't do those online quizzes) in case they didn't want to fail.

And yeah, it's basically just to pass information about the commerce degree.

My roommate and a few others took this course and I remember there were weekly quizzes due every Friday. I didn't personally take it though so maybe someone in Business can give you further insight?

This was done during the first term of your first year @ DeGroote.
Most. useless. course. ever.. for my year at least (it was offered the first time)
Commerce profs/guest speakers would come in once every week i believe (or twice) and talk about random things related to Commerce..
Had to go to class in order to pass....
Also had to complete quizzes online each week in order to pass..
I was told by one of the profs that we could just press random answers and we would pass.. And so I did, and passed

Just a pass/fail course, no marks.
