Didn't take the course. But here's the outline so you can get an idea of the workload of it http://ug.degroote.mcmaster. ca/fil...1/2FA3-W14.pdf

A lot of students seem to dislike one of the prof that taught/teaches the course, Richard Deaves. See his ratings from students here: http://www.ratemyprofessors. com/Sh...sp?tid=6 1711

I took this course two years ago. I cannot comment on the prof because i hardly ever went to class. However, I did do well on the course because everything you need is in the course-ware. Study the course-ware and complete practice questions, then you will be fine.

yea the professor was not great. but you can do well in the course as long as you make an effort to go to class and practice.

I honestly hated the class a lot. It's a challenge for people who struggle with math or don't do well with numbers. Professors were both useless in this course. Just do your best to thoroughly study the courseware. The course is important as 3FA3 the following year is even harder. You can get through, it just will require more work than other Commerce courses.

Hi, so is it possible to 12 if you are very good with math and study entirely off the courseware?

I never went to class, studied off the textbook, not even course ware. Came out with a 10 and didn't do much, so it really depends on how well you do math based courses.

You can get a 12, but it will be hard if it's your first time doing finance or looking at these material. You would have to calculate compounding interest, rate of return on quarterly basis and things of that nature. 10 and 11 is highly probable. And study the course-ware because the final exam had the same questions that were in the book.

Hi thanks, so you don't need the textbook at all? Only the course pack is needed? Do you recommend getting other intro finance textbooks to supplement since I heard deaves is not good?

I'm just wondering what all the negativity behind Deaves is.. Does he makes his tests absurdly hard? Or is it just that he does not teach the course well? I can deal with the latter since I like to learn materials by myself anyways, but if he makes absurdly difficult tests then im rethinking whether i should take this.
