DC++ is a lan-based sharing program similar to limewire. Because it's on a lan, and it's connected across residences, you are able to download a large selection of files from anyone living on residence at insane speeds (we're talking > 1mb/s).

You should also be careful as to what folders you are sharing. Some people end up sharing personal files without knowing.

That's what gets me paranoid, as to what I'm sharing or not =S. Still awesome though

Easiest thing is to get remove all folders when you first set it up. Then make a new folder in "My Documents" called "DC++" and share that folder.

Can't wait for DC++ and just faster internet speeds in general. My current 1MByte/sec connection is just BLAH...
DC++ should be able to get more than 1mbps though right? Considering it's LAN based and most people have Gigabit (1000mbps) now right? (if my CCNA1 knowledge serves me correctly)

I didn't want to quote any speed in particular in case people come on and argue that I'm wrong.
Although I'm pretty sure I remember getting 5mb/s while downloading some movies.

I think it can go even faster than that... I remember seeing double digits sometimes...

Hm... interesting... maybe there's a cap of some kind? I dunno, I'm getting rusty on networking stuff. Usually how quickly do DVD-RIP quality films end up on DC++? And TV episodes? (Big Bang Theory?).
This is a bit off topic... but has anyone speed tested McMaster's internet access speed?

DC++ is usually pretty good about getting new stuff up ASAP. It all depends on if someone on residence is a hardcore torrent guy.
McMaster's internet is a T1 line (I'm pretty sure), but since it's shared between everyone on residence, it's actual speed varies, although it's never been worse than what I'm used to at home (I have Rogers Hi-Speed).

TV shows depends on internet sources. Generally you can see TV shows on the internet within a couple hours from showing, and they should be on DC++ a couple minutes after that.
