no you dont. the speed will not be the same, but you can still connect. Although your router may block it (you'll have to open ports in it's firewall). For those who cant connect, make sure that your firewall is alowing your client to connect to the network

In that case what setting would I have to input into the client to connect to MacHub?

Just enter machub.dyndns.org as the server and that's it. You also need a username and an optional password, which I believe you can set in the preferences.

Can you connect to it on campus but not in residence? I saw some ports in the student centre second floor.. can we use that or what?

That worked several years ago, but unfortunately no longer does. They moved the ethernet ports onto the wifi hub switches from the residence switches a while back.

Using those ethernet ports is no different than using the campus wifi.

for those who cant figure it out
once you have installed DC++ according to guide go into File -> Quick Connect
then paste "machub.dyndns.or g" when it asks for the input (or what ever its called)
you should then be connected to the McMaster Hub

if it says it failed to connect and to reconnect in 6 seconds or something just keep reconnecting or leave it on by itself until it connects

Hope that helps
