Define Books

Buying books is perhaps one of the most expensive parts of being a student, aside from your tuition fees. That being said, when it comes time to sell the textbooks you no longer need, sometimes it can be tough to get a fair price.

A new Hamilton-based company called Define Books has recognized the issues students have when it comes to buying, selling and trading their books. The website features a classified system, where interested persons can put up a listing for their books, and those looking for books can see what is available.

For more information, check out www.definebooks.ca/

The company is also utilizing social media, so you can find them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

The MI marketplace is definitely useful, but it can be helpful to know about more than one source, just in case no one on MI has that paticular book (for larger classes this won't be an issue though )

MI doesn't work for me. 4/5 courses I'm taking this term have less than 30 people, so it's difficult to find used textbooks for me

MI is bad for me too because the majority of books are for classes I will NEVER take. I checked books for a particular course once, and out of almost 4000 listings, only 3 had the book I wanted. out of all 3 contacted, only one got back to me, and I didn't even end up buying the book from him.

Any used book service is only going to be as good as the number of people selling books to it. So list your textbooks next year! Most of my classes are also super small, so the textbooks aren't on MI. (Until next year, when I list my used ones )

But that's probably the best reason to check multiple sources, so you get the most options!

I know this sounds like a total noob question... but can anyone actually click on the books on that site to see like a description? I put my books on there and then went looking at some others, even tried to click on my own - lo and behold I cant figure out how to click on the book ad to see the description....
