Difficulty of changing Term 2 Physics 1B03 Lab & Core?
I currently am in Physics 1B03 L12 (Monday 3:30-5:20) and C06 (12:30/13:30), both of which directly conflicts with my other classes. If I switch into L17 (Th 12:30-2:20) and C04 (Mo We Fr 8:30), my term 2 schedule would be conflict-free.

However, during these last few days of checking SOLAR, the physics cores and labs have stayed full.

I'm wondering if I should...

1) Wait it out and keep checking SOLAR

2) Email the physics undergrad department head requesting a seat authorization
However, I'm wondering if it's possible to make specific requests (i.e. switching into C04 and L17), or I would just be assigned to any core/lab that fits my timetable? Or would they advise me to keep on checking SOLAR?

Thanks very much for the help!

I spoke to the secretary in BSB and she showed me how there are 0 spots available in any labs and that there were simply spots being held by the faculty for students who contacted the university. I would not rely on Solar cause there is no space to switch into. Contact the physics department and hopefully they can hold a seat for you. Good luck!

The same thing happened in Physics 1BB3 when I was in first year. The students that wanted to switch sections had to contact the lab coordinator and within 1-2 weeks they switched students wherever they could. So maybe they'll do that again this year, but it would be best to contact the department now and possibly get rid of the worrying.

Thanks mike4 and jhan523!

To request a seat, is it alright to just email or call Dr. Hughes (she is the Undergraduate Advisor)? Since I live 90km away from McMaster, it would be difficult to go there personally for an appointment.

Calling is just fine, I would avoid e-mails if you have the ability to call.

Yes, thats fine. Just explain your reasoning and thinks should work out since the conflict seems to be very common.
