Disney Buys Marvel (and all it's characters!)
The story:
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/dis...009-08-31-9050
Quote:
Building on its strategy of delivering quality branded content to people around the world, The Walt Disney Company has agreed to acquire Marvel Entertainment, Inc. in a stock and cash transaction, the companies announced today.
Under the terms of the agreement and based on the closing price of Disney on August 28, 2009, Marvel shareholders would receive a total of $30 per share in cash plus approximately 0.745 Disney shares for each Marvel share they own. At closing, the amount of cash and stock will be adjusted if necessary so that the total value of the Disney stock issued as merger consideration based on its trading value at that time is not less than 40% of the total merger consideration.
|
Quote:
Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of Marvel including its more than 5,000 Marvel characters. Mr. Perlmutter will oversee the Marvel properties, and will work directly with Disney's global lines of business to build and further integrate Marvel's properties.

I wonder if this will mean we see more Marvel action figures in Toy Story 3.

I can picture it now:
"Coming in 20XX: Disney and Pixar presents Spider-Man!
After the Green Goblin threatens to steal all the toys and candy of New York, Spiderman must convince him to stop his villainous deeds! Along the way he must discover the true meaning of friendship and teamwork.
Featuring music by Randy Newman and John Ratzenberger as the voice of Mary Jane"
....I think I just scared myself.

I'm sure Disney is smart enough to not drastically edit any of the franchises with fears it might alienate their gigantic fan bases. It just probably wanted to start making money off them, that's all.

I really hope that's true... I mean I know that's what they do, but they could conceivably screw it up... Think George Clooney Hulk. Since he DID play Batman...

I'm sad.
But I'd be even sadder if it was D/C, so IMO, it could be worse! xD
