Since this is a programming class, I can't imagine how it cannot have a lab. Yet, the webpage doesn't say that it has a lab. Is that true? If so, how are the students expected to practise writing programs?

When i did it with Dr.Franek there were no labs, but there were tutorials where the TA would go through some programming stuff. So you can learn programming from tutorials or on your own. The language we used was Python.

On your own... ? I don't recall there being a lab for any of my programming courses. Some of them had tutorials, but those were second year courses, and the tutorials were about discussing how to solve the given problems, not how to write programs.

Practice on your own time, the computer labs will be open. Or you can program on your own computer.

EDIT: ... 1MD3 had a tutorial? Huh. Well I guess you could learn there. I know I definitely never went to any tutorials for that class, I honestly did not need any help with any of the material. Also, it was in Java when I did it.

In the context of a programming class, isn't "solving a problem" the same as "writing a program"?

1MD3 does have a tutorial, though they don't really help too much to be honest. I went there to help out other people myself. You can learn what you need to know for this course by yourself for the most part.

They would discuss approaches to solving the problem in terms of the algorithms and data structures. That isn't the same as writing a piece of code.

CS IMD3 was a pretty basic course, all you need to know for your assignments is pretty much explained in class and if for some reason you feel the need to get extra help, you can go to the tutorial. P.S there isn't a lab for this course.
