Dunno where to put this, so...
Well, I do have a question, and I am a first year, so...ha ha. No. Don't know a better place in these forums to place this question.

MY QUESTION: Why do most threads in these forums end up in arguments, flame wars, etc.?

Yes yes, I know, there are lots of trolls lurking around. But seriously...wtf? Almost every thread I see has a flame war going on. You'd start talking about something completely random and then end up having a flame war about something completely unrelated...

So people get so frustrated with studying that they act like immature idiots on the forums? Interesting.

I highly doubt it. From what I've seen, it's mostly blind, biased arguments.

They're just forums. Everything on here, with the exception of legitmate advice regarding academics or things such as navigating your way around Hamilton, are taken with a grain of salt.

It's not a big deal.

I just find it annoying that people have a hard time staying on topic because of these idiots. That's all. Not trying to criticize the forums or whatever.

Personally the only annoying thing i find is when an argument (because that's what they usually are) gets so intense, and the stupid MI glitch kicks in, so no one sees their responses till a month later.

And also, it's not so much that they aren't on topic, they're just looking at the argument presented, in different ways. Which is just proof of their education dollars working wonders, I suppose.

It's unavoidable. Forums are by their very nature places of discussion, and thereby debate. With the shroud of anonynmity one is able to voice their view as strongly as they wish, but often this leads to an opposing view voicing their opinion. Noone likes being told that they are wrong and thus an argument starts. Usually this leads to a flame war.

Also common is the act of trolling. Some people just love to stir up a ruckus.
