E-mailing Professors
Hello fellow macinsiders,
I was curious to know, what is a reasonable time limit (days), that a professor should take to reply to an e-mail. I e-mailed a professor requesting to review a test, and it has been 5 days, still no response. I have double checked to make sure the e-mail address is correct. This is very frustrating as I feel the professor is not fulfilling their duty as the course instructor. Any advice?

My experience is about 48 hours, but it's probably stated in the course outline if you want to check. Five days seems excessive, maybe go to their office hours and ask in person?

They should respond within the week. Go ask them in person or try again.

Yea 5 days is a bit too long, they could be busy and all, but it's definitely a good idea to go to their office and ask.

According to my TA contract we are allowed to wait a maximum of 5 days to respond to emails. Personally I try to withing 48 hrs. Check your syllabus it should be listed there.
But there is no harm in reemailing them at this point in time.

And this is why I CCed to the Dean every time I send an important email. If they don't reply within a respectable time frame, I immediate have evidence to file a formal complain with the Dean.

Or you could just use the record of when you sent the file on you mac email in the "sent" folder... if i were the Dean, i would get pretty pissed off being CCed in emails that have absolutely NO meaning to me.

But many have time stamps that are easy to change. Either way I wouldn't copy everything to the dean :p

Haha, they have no obligation to respond. Go see them in person if you really want to resolve an issue.

If their policy for reviewing a test involves emailing them... then they are obligated to respond. If the OP ignored course policies and just emailed them (rather than a course manager, going to office hours, etc.) then yeah.
