Nikolova is an ECE prof who teaches electromagnetics courses. Pretty sure he meant magnetics instead of magnesium.

look sorry for the criticism, i just came here to ask one simple question and ive been getting alot of feedback about how engineering isnt easy. I KNOW THAT. i finished first year DMZZ so theres no need for your comments on thinking you know me because you obviously dont. so i finished first year and got into electrical instead of civil and someone had noticed what i was trying to say and got it spot on. So thanks for that. But thats my situation. I want to switch into civil, maybe its near impossible and hard to do but I'm not going to give up on it so i just need some feedback instead of "10 bucks he does this and this"DMZZ you're in GEOGRAPHY, how do you know how i will or will not like an engineering stream. it seems that my situation was easy to understand except for you so if you cant give me helpful feedback then dont give any at all. Thank you.

ECE is difficult and Eng Phys would be challenging. Engineering is not an easy major!

would it be better to do materials engineering since it is very similar to civil/structural? does anyone know if they have any of the same courses even? except for math

2P04 (statics) is the course that Civil and Materials share.

Being an engineer requires one to communicate effectively to your colleagues and laymen. Several users read your posts and still don't know where you stand.

few months back i read somewhere on macinsiders that Software Engineering is so easy that it shouldn't even qualify as an Engineering program. I saw 70% students crying over Eng 1D04-Intro to programming in first year. LOL!!
It totally depends on your interest.

I like how you didn't even finish reading the rest of that line in his sig.

Protip: when strangers asking for advice, courtesy and respect get you a long way.

Also, well-spaced posts and at least an attempt at spelling and grammar always help too.

In addition to Eng 2P04 as mentioned above, Civil, Materials, and most other streams also take Eng 4B03 (Engineering Economics) sometime too.

I'll also mention that Mowicz is a Math major, not an Engineering one.

ok so you are going into second year electrical but you want to be in civil.

First thing you want to do is talk to an academic advisor as they can set you on a better path to get where you want, the number can be found here: http://www.eng.mcmaster.ca/current/advising.html

They can tell you exactly what courses you need to/should take and what grades you need to switch. Talk to them before you make any decisions about course selection.

If you want to know the courses that people in each stream have to take you can find it in the undergraduate calendar here: http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /CALEN...nt/pg1202.html

Hope that helps and good luck!

(in the future, describing your situation a little more would get you a lot further on MI. There are a lot of helpful people here and someone on here has most likely gone through what you are going through right now )

OP, you are so rude! We are students, just like you, who help others who are in need of it. Just like with helping others in every day life, if you whine and complain about how we're helping you, we probably just won't bother.

Despite that, I'd like to think of myself as a helpful person. So I'll let you know that materials is nothing like civil, it started as an offshoot of mechanical, I believe. We take only one course that is civ related, 2P04.

Mechanical, as far as I know, takes more civ related courses, but also tends to have a high entrance average requirement.

tl;dr: TALK TO A COUNSELLOR. They'll help you.

lol. this thread is kinda ridiculous. If you've already spent a year at mac, then Im sure you've noticed quite a few people repeat first year so that they can get into the program of their choice. Thats the most popular route. There is no easy or simple way of switching engineering fields.

If you want to get into civil, then talk to the counselor and figure out if there is still space left in the program (most likely there isn't). Assuming that there is space left, and its just a problem with your CA, then you can repeat a few courses in the second summer term and still be on pace to graduate in four years. Other than that, you can think about transferring to some other university that will let you take civil with your current grades.

I got a question of my own: I'm currently considering whether or not to return to mac. what is the deadline for signing up for second year courses?
